The frigid air has finally arrived in New Jersey and you’ve got two choices – stay inside or play outdoors! For some outdoor winter adventure, bundle up and check out a Maple Sugaring Demo or Weekend Family Walk at Great Swamp Outdoor Education Center or bring your binoculars along for a Winter Waterfowl Walk at Liberty State Park. And if you’d rather be warm & toasty indoors, we’ve got you covered there too! Head to the Monmouth County Library for A Frozen Adventure in Music, Dance & Story, take the kiddos to see the latest Milk & Cookies interactive story time “One-Man Band” or get your tickets for Bob Marley’s Three Little Birds at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. Maple Sugaring Demo (Chatham, NJ)
Maple Sugaring season is officially here! Learn how to identify and tap maple trees, collect sap and make syrup over a wood-fired evaporator. Taste test different delicious syrups, including syrup made right at the Great Swamp Outdoor Education Center.

Saturday, January 23rd

A Frozen Adventure in Music, Dance & Story (Manalapan, NJ)
Families are invited to enjoy everyone’s favorite wintry tale of two sisters, an evil prince and a loveable snowman at the Monmouth County Library. All little princesses are welcome to wear their royal outfits to this special show, presented by the Red Bank Performing Arts Ensemble.

Weekend Family Walk (Chatham, NJ)
Winter can be a great time to bundle up in coats and boots and explore the beautiful NJ outdoors! Take to the trails this Saturday to discover the unique animals and plants found at the Great Swamp and learn some new nature facts about what you find.

Milk & Cookies Presents “One-Man Band” (New Brunswick, NJ)
Milk & Cookies is a lively, interactive and free series featuring storytelling and music to help children discover the joy of watching, listening and interacting with the arts. This weekend, join in the fun with multi-talented musician Lovey Williams as his lively “One-Man Band” concert engages kids in making music and learning.

Winter Wonderland Songs & Stories (Manalapan, NJ)
Another fun & free program at Monmouth County Library to keep you busy this winter! Families can drop by for a heartwarming celebration of the wonder of snow, sneezes and itchy snowsuits during an energetic, funny show. Kids can make a sparkly snowflake craft during intermission.

Bob Marley’s Three Little Birds (Newark, NJ)
This lively musical production features a hit score by Bob Marley and is based on the children's book by his daughter Cedella Marley. The show tells the tale of Ziggy, a young Jamaican boy who is so afraid of hurricanes, mongooses and other things that he is afraid to leave the house. Kids will discover the joy of Bob Marley's music in this delightful tale of triumph over anxiety.

Sunday, January 24th

Snowshoe Sundays (Montville, NJ)
Enjoy an afternoon of guided snowshoeing and trekking at picturesque Pyramid Mountain. Feel free to bring your own snowshoes if you’ve got ‘em or rent a pair from the park – no experience necessary! Be sure and call ahead about weather conditions too.

Winter Waterfowl Walk (Jersey City, NJ)
Unless you're a polar bear or seal, you might think January is just too cold for swimming but for ducks and other waterfowl, the weather's just fine! Families can take a guided walk at Liberty State Park to see which birds have arrived for the winter and learn about how they adapt, seek shelter and hunt for food.
