Calm Morning: He Named Me Malala Movie Poster Design

Sat Apr 27, 2024
9:00am to 1:00pm PT
Age: All ages
Price: Free w/ GA
Location:
Academy Museum of Motion Pictures

The Academy Museum offers designated hours so that kids can experience the museum in a less sensory-stimulating way.

In April, activities are inspired by the film He Named Me Malala (2015). ASL interpretation is provided.

SCHEDULE:
9–10am: Early Gallery Access
Guests can explore the Identity gallery, featuring costume design, makeup, and hairstyling,  in the Stories of Cinema exhibition on Level 2, where sound and lighting adjustments will be made for a more sensory-friendly viewing experience.

10–11am: Family Workshop (Shirley Temple Education Studio)
This workshop is inspired by He Named Me Malala, which follows the true story of Malala’s bravery and strength in her journey advocating for girls to have access to education. Families can design and create a movie poster featuring a woman in their life who is strong and inspiring, like Malala.

In addition to the Calm Mornings program, visitors are encouraged to attend the  accessible, open-caption screening of He Named Me Malala at 11am in the Ted Mann Theater. (Separate admission ticket required. Tickets for the film are $5 for all guests.)

The Shirley Temple Education Studio remains open jduring the screening as a space for relaxation and continued art-making until 1pm.

Calm Mornings are a free program with the purchase of general admission. Museum admission for children ages 17 and under is always free.
