1. Thackery Binx's Village: Pioneer Village
Step back in time to the 17th century at Pioneer Village, which was transformed into the home of Thackery Binx and the Sanderson Sisters for the opening scenes of the movie. This living history museum is America's first, and it’s a fantastic place for kids to see what life was really like in the 1600s. It’s a bit of a walk from the downtown area, so you may want to drive and park here first or save it for the end of your tour.
2. Max & Allison's School: Phillips Elementary School
Remember Max getting annoyed with his new school on Halloween? The exterior shots of Jacob Bailey High School were filmed at the now-closed Phillips Elementary School, located right on the Salem Common. While you can't go inside, it’s a great photo op and the perfect starting point for the most walkable part of your tour.

3. Outdoor Scenes and Strolls: Salem Common
Many of the daytime outdoor scenes where Max, Dani, and Allison stroll through town were filmed at Salem Common. This large, beautiful park is right next to the Phillips Elementary School location and features a fun playground that is a great place for kids to run around and burn off some energy. In autumn, the foliage is absolutely spectacular!

4. Max & Dani's House: A Private Residence
Perhaps the most famous location of all, the charming house with the rooftop cupola where Max and Dani lived, is a must-see. However, it is very important to remember that this spot on Ocean Avenue is a private home. The current owners are welcoming to fans, but please be respectful. Stay on the sidewalk, take your photos from a distance, and do not walk onto the property. It’s a wonderful chance to teach our little ones about being considerate while still soaking in the movie magic.
5. Allison's Elegant Home: The Ropes Mansion
"What do you call 'em, Max? Yabos?" Allison’s stunning white mansion, where Max and Dani crashed the adult Halloween party, is actually the beautiful Ropes Mansion. Operated by the Peabody Essex Museum, the mansion has a gorgeous garden in the back that is free and open to the public. It’s the perfect spot for a little rest and a snack before continuing your spooky adventure. A few days before Halloween the PEM decorates the outside of the mansion just as it was shown in the film - it makes for a terrific picture opportunity but get there early or you’ll be fighting for your spot in line!

6. The Sanderson Sisters' Grand Entrance: Old Town Hall
The grand building where Bette Midler performs her iconic rendition of "I Put a Spell on You" is Salem's Old Town Hall. While the interior party scenes were filmed on a soundstage, the exterior shots are all of this historic building in the heart of Salem. The area around Old Town Hall is bustling with shops and street performers, especially in October, making it a fun and lively stop for families.
And there you have it—a spooktacular and surprisingly simple tour to run "amok, amok, amok"through Salem! Most of these iconic spots are just a short walk from each other, making it a perfect adventure for little legs (and stroller-pushing parents). So, pack your comfiest shoes, grab an apple cider donut, and get ready to make some magical Halloween memories with your family.
